Sports and Activities

Charter Primary School 185At Charter school we pride ourselves on the provision of a wide range of sports and other clubs ranging from tag rugby, football and netball through to cookery and art classes.

Previous activities we have enjoyed include  tennis, cricket, swimming, zumba, street surfing and creative arts.

Film club is continuing to run on Thursday lunch times with Miss Coverley and Choir will continue on Thursday after School throughout the school year.

Football and Chess clubs have started again on Mondays after school.  Netball club will be starting again soon.

Friday – 3.15-4.30pm – Multi Skills Club, Change 4 Life (Y3 & Y4) – This club will be run by PH Sports Coaching.

Please remember that all children being collected from an after school club MUST be collected by an adult, over the age of 18.

Curriculum PE


At Charter School we are now teaching REAL PE;  this is a programme to develop our fundamental movement skills (agility, balance and co-ordination).  Why not ask your child what they have been practising.

Term 3 Achievements

The children and staff enjoyed a fun filled rugby morning on the 14th January.  DSCN2353


We now have Matt (FA qualified coach) coaching Year 1 and 2 football on Wednesdays.  The children are practising their ball skills, spacial awareness and team building.

Term 2 Achievements

Well done to our Y6 Young Sports Leaders who received their certificates in assembly.  Thank you to Mr Tregalgis and Mrs Pierce from Abbeyfield School for training them and for their continued support with PE across the school.DSCN1797

November 2014

Well done to Charter football team for their performance at the recent football tournament at Stanley Park.

Well done to the Y6 young sports leaders who led multi skills sessions for the younger children.

A great effort was made by everyone at Charter on Children in Need day when they dressed as their favourite superhero/real life hero and completed our “Super Circuits”.  The school raised a fantastic £248.40.


Term 1 Achievements

Ms Morgan from Abbeyfield School has been supporting classes across the school with their Dance learning this term, and we look forward to the rest of the sessions in the terms to come.

Well done to the Charter Netball team who performed well in their first match of the year.

Saturday 22nd March – Good luck to the Football and Netball teams who are playing in a tournament at Sheldon school!

Friday 28th March – The Tag Rugby Team will be entering their first tournament on Friday 28th March at Chippenham Rugby Club. This is the re-arranged tournament from 7th March. We would like to wish them all good luck!

Friday 7th March – The Tag Rugby Team will be entering their first ever tournament at Chippenham Rugby Club. We wish them good luck.   Postponed

Thursday 13th March – Netball match at Sheldon

Friday 14th March – Some children will be participating in an exciting Talent Team session in partnership with local secondary schools.

Thursday 20th March – Football match at Stanley Park

Saturday 22nd March – Both the Football & Netball Teams will be competing in tournaments

Friday 9th May – We will be sending some more children to train as Young Officials following on from the first very successful session

During Term 5 Y5 will be taking part in Quadkids Athletics training in preparation for the level 2 tournament at Bath University on Tuesday 20th May.

Friday 13th June our Talent Team will be going on trip to Bath University

Tuesday 24/Weds 25th June – Chippenham Games

Friday 4th and Friday 11th July – There will be a trip to Hardenhuish School to use the Rock climbing and Trampolining facilities.

Just before the Easter Holidays the Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Team entered their first tournament winning their 1st ever match!

Although they did not win the tournament they performed well as a team and gave an excellent 1st performance.

Well done to all those who took part in the Tag Rugby Tournament at Chippenham Rugby Club on Friday 28th March. It was the first tournament for them all and gave them some really good experience to take forward into the future.

Well done to  both the football and netball teams who took part in the tournament at Sheldon School on Saturday 22nd March. Both teams improved on their finishing positions and played very well. Keep up the good work!

Monday 10th February – The netball team played in a level 2 school games tournament. The girls played well and won 1 match, drew 1 match and lost 3 matches.

Good luck for the next match which will be on Thursday 13th March.



To the Netball Team who played at Sheldon School on Monday 3rd February. They won 2 out of 3 matches and the winning results were as follows:

10 – 0  v  Queens Crescent

4 – 0  v   Kings Lodge

They will be playing their next tournament on Monday 10th February.


Well done to Maddison Hewer and Taylor Forester for completing their Change4life Young Leader training. They were fully involved in the training and recieved particular recognition for their leadership skills.


Many congratulations to the 4 children  who completed their Young Referees Course at Hardenhuish School and who were amongst the first chidren in Wiltshire to gain this qualification. They are : Lucy McMullen, Adam Wight, Adam Lewkowicz and Jessica Hallowell and they are now putting their new skills to good use by umpirirng and refereeing at the after school clubs.


Well done to theFootball Team for coming an excellent 4th in the Stanley Park Football Festival on Monday 25th November.

Y4 enjoyed an exciting and informative trip to Chippenham Town Football Club on Friday 22nd November. A great time was had by all!

On Friday 15th November Y6 were trained by Mr Tregalgis from Abbeyfield school as Young Sports Leaders. They were taught how to deliver fun and safe PE sessions and we look forward to them applying their new skills to teaching the younger children in the school later in the year.

We are pleased to inform you that from Monday 11th November Mr McGinn from the FA Tesco Coaching Scheme will be teaching KS1 football this term.

On Thursday 7th November the Netball Team played their first match of the year at Sheldon. They played really well and won 2 out of 3 matches.
