Child leadership programme

Here at Charter, we want our pupils to be fully involved in their school. This involves the children taking on roles of responsibility and having a say on how we do things. Each year group, from year one, is assigned a particular area of responsibility for them to hold.

Year Group  

Year 1 – Door monitors for assembly

Year 2 – Lunchtime Trolley Monitors

Year 3 – Eco Warriors

Year 4 – Assembly monitors including prayers

Year 5 – Community and charity ambassadors, play leaders

Year 6 – Subject leader ambassadors including pupil voice, mini inspection of subject

CRC (Lancaster) – Pet Fish Protectors

In addition, classes are expected to:

  • Run their own cake sale
  • Manage garden boxes
  • Provide updates for their web page x6 per year
  • KS2 help as office elves – between 2.30pm and 3.15pm
  • Be student planners – child lead learning week (PPA)

Teachers are expected to:

  • Meet with the year 6 subject ambassadors each term.
  • Allow ambassadors to carry out pupil voice with guidance and other specified tasks
  • Allow time for your class to carry out identified ambassador tasks including those requested by other staff
  • Choose ambassadors from class to carry roles – can on a rota system, try to involve as many pupils as possible

Pupil Leadership Team

There are 3 nominated head teacher ambassadors who support the headteacher by:

  • Showing visitors around school
  • Hosting lunch for invited guests
  • Being part of the interview process when appointing new staff
  • Open day planning
  • Being involved in parents evening workshops or events
  • Carrying out the role of children’s parliament representatives
